Reasons to visit Bali’s beautiful Canggu Ricefields
30 Jan 2020
Are you planning a trip to Bali and unsure what to add to your itinerary? If gorgeous rice terraces are your thing, don’t miss out on the opportunity to visit the Canggu ricefields. Although there are plenty of other fantastic ricefields spread throughout the region, the fields in Canggu are excellent for tourists as they are truly stunning and are located close to the many cafés, bars and high-end shops of Canggu village. If this weren’t enough to convince you, the ricefields are fully operational and present the opportunity for visitors to gain an insight into how rice is harvested in Bali.
How can I reach the Canggu ricefields?
Canggu is a relatively vast region and its attractions and amenities are rather spread out. In this way, you will need to hire a bicycle or moped or prepare yourself for some long walks. Generally speaking, we would recommend hiring a bicycle as it will help you to make the most of your time and is easier to control than a moped on Canggu’s unsteady roads.
Once you have settled on a mode of transport, make your way along Jalan Batu Mejan until you reach Jalan Padang Linjong. You must then turn left through Jalan Pura Blulang Yeh. This is a narrow (and very bumpy!) dirt path that you should make your way through with caution.
As soon as you have ridden through this path, turn right on to the beautiful rice terraces of Jalan Sempol or turn left towards the beach and ricefields of Jalan Pantai Pererenan. If you have the time, try to visit both of these areas as they are places of stunning beauty and will give you a real flavour of the authentic Bali.
What will I see at the ricefields of Canggu and how do they compare to others in Bali?
The Canggu ricefields are exemplary Balinese ricefields that feature breathtaking sloping terraces and special irrigation methods unique to the island. Although they are not always deemed to be as beautiful as other ricefields in the area, they are fantastic for tourists thanks to their easy accessibility. Indeed, they can be easily reached by tourists new to the region without the need for private drivers or guided tours. In this way, they are fantastic for people who are looking for an authentic experience. Of course, this does not mean that you should skip out on viewing other beautiful rice terraces such as those in Tegalalang and Jatiluwih.
When should I see the rice fields?
Early morning or early evening, when the sun is not at its peak, are both great times to see the ricefields. Of course, it is important that you avoiding getting caught in the ricefields when it is dark as many parts are not lit with artificial light.
