Canggu Bali – 5 of the best Canggu cafes
18 Dec 2017
Step aside Seminyak and Kuta, because Canggu is fast becoming the coolest place to chill out in Bali. The streets surrounding this once-sleepy surf spot are the alternative places to dine, shop and sip that are going mainstream.
Like almost nowhere else in the world, Canggu’s cafe scene offers a diverse, unique and fresh dining experience that combines unprecedented atmosphere with relaxation and value for money. Coming up with a top 5 is therefore extremely difficult, but let’s give it a shot:
1. Shady Shack
Nestled amid the beautiful palm trees, Shady Shack is where you can head for a delicious health kick. Always buzzing with regulars who visit several times a day and inquisitive tourists who’ve been tipped off to its brilliance, the menu is delicious and healthy and a favourite among vegetarians. Grab a cacao smoothie, a halloumi salad bowl or a Shady burger – you won’t regret any of them!
2. Coffee & Oven
Lots of cool and trendy cafes try hard to be cool and trendy – but that’s not how Coffee & Oven rolls! Basically, it’s immensely cool because it achieves it without trying, which makes this establishment serving excellent coffee and fresh, simple meals just so popular. Coffee & Oven dips its hat to Balinese tradition whilst offering simple favourites like the beetroot burger, the avocado shake, fruit pancakes and the omelette with freshly-baked bread.
3. Milk & Madu
If you wake up particularly hungry one day, head down to Milk & Madu and find out why their hearty breakfast is so commonly raved about. Combine that breakie or brunch with Milk & Madu’s signature revolver coffee, and you’re set up for a solid day of exploring. A favourite dish is The Madu, with its organic eggs, avocado, bacon, onion jam, hollandaise sauce and lemon. Yum!
4. Crate Cafe
Always packed to the rafters, Crate Cafe is the ultimate hipster hangout, and it’s no secret why: the food and the coffee are simply among the absolute best in Bali. Head to Crate Cafe nice and early to avoid the inevitable crowd, and what you’ll find is an affordable, delicious and healthy menu that even fussy eaters will love. Try a Chia Cup or one of Crate’s famous fritters.
5. Betelnut Cafe
Another great spot for breakfast, you’ll also really enjoy the novelty of the treehouse-style upstairs dining that overlooks the ricefields for lunch and dinner too. No matter what you really fancy, there’s absolutely no excuse to visit Betelnut without trying one of their Canggu-wide famous cheesecakes.
